Pray, Send, Go
World mission (often referred to as cross-cultural mission) is the evangelization and discipleship of different peoples and different nations. Global evangelization focuses on gospel presentation and grace-centered initiatives including the establishment of local congregations, assisting in disaster relief, and addressing social injustices.
But why not just do local mission?
We believe that Jesus’ mandate to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,.” Matthew 28:19a is meant for all believers who by faith await the Kingdom to come. This isn’t the first time God has directed his covenantal people to the nations. Abraham was also told by God in Genesis 12:1-3 that he would bless the nations:
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
As believers we are blessed to be a blessing to the nations. The word nations (‘goiim’ in Hebrew and ‘ethne’ in Greek) means peoples or ethnic group. God calls us to more than just to be a blessing to government defined nations, but also to be a blessing to all groups of people of the world with distinct ethnic and language diversity. When Revelations 14:6 says:
“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.”
That means we are called, as Christ mandated, to bless the peoples of the world by bringing the good news of the gospel of grace in both Word and deed (Romans 10:14).
How do I take part?
Given the unique gifts of every Body member, we are not all called to go across the ocean. We are all called to become disciples and make disciples starting in our hometown and reaching to the ends of the earth. Participation in global mission doesn’t have to be on the other side of the world. You can participate today : pray, send or go.
